Star Wars Books Must Read 2014
Leading up to the first star wars movie in 3 decades, releasing in December 2015 hopefully. I am always a Star wars fan. I am one of the few who like the new movies the Prequel. I grew up on those. There are not that many who speak from that stance I know. But back in the early 80's there was nothing like Star Wars so those movies held a huge impact in the community. But with all the theatrics now what matters is the story. So my biggest concern is that Disney has declared all non movies to not be the real story. This is so that they can create the future... and also the past ( I predict). This brings me to my excitement of Star wars and wanting to read some more back stories. If your a podcast listener like me you'll love audio books. Audible.com gives you one book free trial... I suggest one of the top star wars books from this website http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/30612.Top_Star_Wars_Novels to get one of the best you can in that form. Next we have ibooks, nook, kindle for most ebooks which are next best for people who like to read at night. Then you have books which are awesome by themselves. Keep in mind every new book released will be part of the Main Star Wars timeline. All six movies, the Clone wars ( amazing on netflix ), and the new Star Wars Rebels on Disney XD, hopefully most tv providers will make this channel available in basic packages. So if you want to be part of the real Star Wars new timeline. Then read all new books and watch all new shows.
Lucas went into "hiding" for 20 years. I believe he was maintaining the Story line this whole time. How can a series this popular not be doing something in those years. But when you sell to a big company that is letting go of all of the non "cannon" story lines you kinda have to say stuff like " oh yeah I wasn't writing those so they are not the main story. But thankfully the new future for Star Wars will be planned out and hopefully propel us in to an unknown world much better then the current comic books limitations of keeping to years of story lines. So here is a list from starwars.wikia.com/wiki/timeline , the adult novels, that I hope to get into. I am most interested in filling the gaps of the movies. Then really am interested in Luke Skywalker, He is supposed to be the fulfillment of the balance to the force prophecy, that Darth Vader may or may not let go. Even Yoda was concerned that the Prophecy could have been misinterpreted. But Darth Plagueis was freaking out at the sight of Anakin too. So I think He balanced it all good. The rebuilding of the Jedi and the amazing wisdom that Luke Skywalker shows in his studies of dark side vs. light side, and his studies of ancient races who succeed and fell. But i'm not sure if the future stories of Star Wars will hold to any of this. We have to read the Thrawn series due to its popularity. The New Jedi Order will suffice but I hear its like Battle Star Galactica. Then I play Star Wars The Old Republic, so I am interested in the Old republic. The popularity of Darth Bane will draw me to them. But Revan is like an Prelude to what Luke Skywalker should be like. Not bound by an order but a complete dependence upon truth whether light or dark. But a protection of Life.
So here is a list of them that I look to get into. I am not listing any comics, or kids or young adult books. Let Me know if I am missing out on must reads. I know I omitted the Hans Solo trilogy, but I feel like a smuggler in space is a little to far for me and my interest in the Force. Hopefully the new movies will catch the power of the force and not show it as a limited power that may be out there. But I want to see masters use it not just with a sword that is so easy to make now a days. Use today's tech to fly people and destroy troops, and bring life and end it, and political wisdom, and everyday life choices that interact with a deeper goal. Not magic or manipulation but a true seeking of the Truth of it and how to respond to find out more about it.
Update: I have read all the new books as well thanks to Audible.com.. subscribe to them and get the books for like $15 each. There is a significant difference between the new books and the old. I do feel they fill in the gaps we all desired. Dark Disciple gave me a completely unexpected view of the assasin. I really hope to get a book soon on Ahsoka Tano after reading that.
